Artist's Statement
Tell all the truth but tell is slant – (1263) is a poem that I believe has great relevance in a world of relative truths and morality. To me, this poem touches on some of life’s most important guiding principles and speaks to universal truths which cut across cultures. Each image in this show was specifically chosen to relate to a specific aspect of Dickinson’s poem. As Jack Nicholson said in A Few Good Men, “You can’t handle the truth.” And as Kellyanne Conway shared, “there are alternative facts.” In a world with qualified morality, their messages strike a chord. In Dickinson’s world, they do not. The power of THE message is dazzling because ultimately it is fundamental and eternal.
